Haymarket Media in Australia has won two major categories at the 2009 Bell Awards, which recognise excellence in print and online publishing.
Brett Winterford of iTnews.com.au was named Editor of the Year at a ceremony on the Sydney Harbour foreshore on Friday, November 13, and Australian FourFourTwo won for Best Print and Media Integration.
Winterford’s win was particularly notable because iTnews is an online-only title and it was Winterford’s first year as an editor.
He said: “The award reflects the dedication of the whole team at iTnews – a team that works around the clock for our readers and has been getting stellar results this year.” Winterford was recently promoted to group online editor for iTnews.com.au and CRN.com.au.
Australian FourFourTwo’s took out the honours in Best Print and Digital Media Integration for its mix of editorial and commercial initiatives across its magazine and website – the most significant being the introduction of the FourFourTwo Insider weekly podcast.
Australian FourFourTwo publishing director Andy Jackson said: “It’s always nice to get recognition from your peers especially in such a competitive and critical area. We believe FourFourTwo is the perfect example of a modern day magazine brand delivering readers a true multimedia experience across print, video, audio, web, email and mobile and we are constantly delivering our commercial partners new and innovative ways to communicate with Australian football supporters.”
Jeremy Vaughan, managing director of Haymarket Media, said: “All of these awards display the commitment the teams are putting into their products. These challenging market conditions have stimulated us to produce superior products than we were a year ago – communication and collaboration shines through as we deliver excellent content to our audience.”
Organiser, Publishers Australia, says that the Bell Awards is the “Australian print magazine and digital media publishing industry’s only credible association-backed awards event”.
The Awards were revamped this year to better represent excellence all aspects of business, consumer, customer and digital publishing.
Haymarket Media was well-represented in nominations and Trevor Treharne, Australian FourFourTwo’s deputy editor, was as runner up in the Journalist of The Year category.
